America’s homebuilders took advantage of both resilient demand and warm weather in the first three months of 2017.

Construction of single-family homes averaged an annualized 836,000 in the first quarter, the strongest pace since the end of 2007, a report from the Commerce Department showed on Tuesday.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said the quarter was the second-warmest on record, helping explain how builders completed work on an annualized 819,000 one-family dwellings in March, an 8 1/2-year high.
