US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the negotiations with China are approaching the "final phase".
Mnuchin said that US Trade Representative Lighthizer will make two phone calls with his Chinese counterparts this week to smooth out the remaining conditionality issues. He added that both sides are also discussing face-to-face meetings if needed.
"I do not want to go into details about the negotiations, especially on the issue of tariffs." - said Mnuchin. But he added there was progress on the enforcement mechanism, saying the US was ready for compromises, of which China, of course, is ready to respond appropriately.
However, Mnuchin refused to give more details about the progress around the mechanism and about the compromises themselves.
