Australia's ASX leapt 2.7 percent in early trade, while futures for the Nikkei looked mixed, with Osaka pointing to a 6 percent surge, as traders digest the prospect of a U.S. President Donald Trump.Nikkei futures were mixed; Chicago futures traded down 0.61 percent at 17,235, but Osaka futures surged 6.15 percent at 17,250. The Nikkei 225 last finished down 5.36 percent at 16,251.54.
The Dow Jones industrial average ended up 1.4 percent at 18,589.69, while the S&P 500 closed up 1.11 percent at 2,136.26. The Nasdaq composite finished up 1.11 percent at 5,251.07.
U.S. crude futures rose 0.6 percent, settling at $45.27 a barrel in the U.S. Wednesday session, while Brent futures settled up 0.7 percent, at $45.27.
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand cut rates by 25 basis points to a record low of 1.75 before the markets opened. The RBNZ statement also warned that "numerous uncertainties remain, particularly in respect of the international outlook, and policy may need to adjust according."
