Nikkei 225 futures in Chicago traded up 0.2 percent at 18,040, while Osaka futures gained 0.17 percent at 18,000. The Japanese benchmark index last finished at17,967.41, its highest close since January 6.
In Australia, the ASX 200 slipped in opening trade, down 0.19 percent. The benchmark index was weighed by its materials sub-index, which fell 0.3 percent, and industrials sub-index, which was down 0.41 percent.
The greenback continued to climb, trading at 101.34 against a basket of currencies.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 0.19 percent to 18,867.93, the S&P 500 slipped 0.24 percent to close at 2,181.9 and the Nasdaq composite fell 0.23 percent to 5,321.51.
U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude settled up 0.6 percent at $45.69 a barrel, while Brent settled 0.8 percent higher at $46.86.
