Chinese markets started the session weakly, with Shanghai Composite down 0.37%, Shenzhen Component 0.56%, and Shenzhen Composite 0.376%. The Hang Seng index rose 0.13%.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 climbed 31% and Topix 0.51%. Nissan Motor shares jumped more than 2.5% following news that CEO Hiroto Saikawa will step down from his post effectively on September 16th.
In South Korea, Kospi also rose by 0.35%. The Australian ASX200 fell 0.53%.
In Malaysia, the telecom conglomerate Axiata Group collapsed 14% after the company terminated merger talks with Norwegian Telenor.
