Michael Avenatti, a lawyer who has gained popularity, defending Stormy Daniels in her court battles against Donald Trump, has been accused of extortion for more than $ 20 million by Nike's sportswear maker.
The case is in Manhattan, with Avenatii accused of damaging the reputation of the company if she does not agree to pay the sum to Avenatti and another unnamed defendant. In addition to the amount, $ 1.5 million was claimed as a lawyer's fee.
In a separate case, also lodged on Monday, Avenatti has been charged with charging California bankruptcy transfers, rerouting client money for settlement to his business in the restaurant sector.
The accusations of the two judges came as soon as Avenatti released a tweet saying he was going to hold a press conference Tuesday to reveal a big scandal about Nike-led schools and high school and basketball teams.
Criminal investigation has reached the highest levels in Nike and some of the biggest names in college and school basketball are involved.
Nike shares fell by more than 1.6% after Avenatti tweed, but jumped by about 0.9%.
