Coming off of a successful initial campaign in 2015, Bing Predicts returns in 2016 with NBA Playoff predictions.
The graphic shows our full playoff predictions, including number of games per series. Golden State is again picked by Bing Predicts to win the NBA title – the Warriors were correctly picked by Predicts last season and the models once again like them to win.
For sports, Bing uses a two-stage algorithm to pick winners, starting with a traditional statistical model which incorporates win/loss, margins of victory, record at home and on the road, player composition, and many other factors to determine team strength.
Bing Predicts then adds web and social network signals to capture the ‘wisdom of the crowds’ to further improvement of the accuracy.
Recently, Bing predicted correctly 20 out of 22 in the Grammys and last week correctly picked the winner of American Idol.
The playoffs begin this weekend.
