It is rumored that top US and Chinese officials will meet today to discuss China's plan to buy more agricultural products from the US. However, Beijing will request the removal of some of the planned or existing tariffs on Chinese imports.
Today, Lighthizer and Mnuchin are expected to have a telephone conversation with Liu He to further confirm the commercial truce.
At this point, Trump has only agreed to the October tariffs, but according to sources, the Chinese will want to eliminate some of the tariffs imposed in September.
Perhaps today we will find out exactly where the limits of patience and tolerance on both sides are in this temporary truce.
The US wants the Chinese to buy more of their goods without taking down many guards (tariffs), and China will not comply with US requirements until some of the tariffs have been removed.
Will we see a compromise solution to the overall outcome of the situation or another escalation that will not surprise us?
