French bank Credit Agricole agreed to pay $ 800 million (£ 516 millions of) for violating sanctions in Iran and other countries.
These penalties are preceded by lengthy investigations by US authorities of European banks in illegal transactions.
In 2013, Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) was fined $ 100 million by US regulators for violating sanctions against Iran, Sudan, Burma and Cuba.
Credit Agricole is accused of transferring billions of dollars in accounts held by people from those countries between 2003 and 2008.
The bank pays the fine as part of the agreement the so-called "deferred prosecution".
Agreement means that you will not have the bank to plead guilty if they meet certain requirements.
It is understood that some of the bankers responsible for wrongdoing have already been released from work in the bank.
French bank BNP Paribas was ordered to pay a record $ 8.9 billion fine earlier this year for similar alleged violations.
Other European banks, including Deutsche Bank, Societe Generale and UniCredit have already said that the US cooperate in investigations of alleged violations of sanctions.
