US unemployment claims rose 10,000 to 239,000 last week, which is more than the average estimate of 232,000 in a Bloomberg survey. Even with the increase in the average number of applications submitted over the past month, it was about 231,000, the lowest of 44 years, according to data from the Ministry of Labor. The report confirms that employers are still reluctant to reduce staff levels due to a shortage of skilled workers.
Taking into account the hurricanes that passed through the United States, the lack of boom in aid applications is a solid argument to believe that unemployment in the country will not suffer lasting increases. Looking at this fact through the Fed's prism, it supports the Bank's desire to raise its key interest rate.
