Bankers drink to entertain their customers for their own fun (when they have time) and to observe the tradition.

The rumor is that before Goldman Sachs became a public company, there had to be a bottle of newborn child, a partner, in the basement of the London office.
But that's just a rumor.

How true is there drinking rules, like Wall Street. Like any group, they have ideas about how things should be done, and more importantly, how they have to drink.

First and foremost, Scotch is drunk.
Scottish whiskey from the luxury brand Royal Salute is a standard. You do not have to order it every time, but if someone offers you, you have to accept it at all costs. Ice is acceptable. Indeed, the real Scotch connoisseur would say that adding it could result in enriching the taste of the spike.
If you want to look like an inner man, think about Macallan or Oban.
If you bet on the popular brand, select the highest class.

Martiniato must be dry.
This is not just a debate about gin. vodka, here for something more important - martinis have no sweet aroma. This is not Cosmo.
Twist is acceptable.

Know who you drink, not all Wall Street are the same.
If you have a bunch of traders, do not be surprised if they all drink something simpler like Jameson, no ice, no water. Man's job. The roots of this come from the old days when traders were back-office, blue-collar type.

You can always skip the first round and justify that the previous night was heavy.
Everyone knows you probably drank, whether it's a job or a fun client. If you are not in shape, just say it. Wait for the first beverages and order the soda.

Soda is a friend.
Most people on Wall Street drink alcohol and do not want to mix it too much. If this is your thing. Think about Gray Goose and Soda or Black Johnny and Soda ... you get the picture.

Hot days are for G&T.
Gin with tonic, vodka with tonic, whatever you prefer.

Know your brand (and the measure).

When someone asks you what you want to drink, you do not have to cry (you can see that this information is not intended for our latitudes). Be decisive. Not only, gin - there are a lot of gin, and you have to know who you like.
If you do not know what you want, you look like a rookie. No one loves novices.

No wine before dinner.
Wine is intended to be consumed with food.
You need to know well enough what kind of wine is good and which food is consumed, but you do not have to be an expert. It is more important to know your alcohol (Scotch / whiskey).
Outside with clients, good Wall Street will always turn away from the wine.

The lady chooses herself.
Ladies, if you want to ignore the rules, give. You have a free pass. Order whatever you want, whether it's Pinot or Beer. Just know if you choose to drink whiskey, you will get the points.

In Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea, be prepared to get drunk. In the United States and the United Kingdom, no matter how much you get drunk, you have to behave like a professional.
For some reason, bankers in Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea make it all up, then they go to karaoke and continue for a while.
London's Wall Street is known as "City," and "Citys" celebrated with champagne. The plan involves drinking plenty of water because the hangover from the champagne acts as a punishment from God.

If you can not drink do not drink.
Make a favor and not do it. Bankers are expected to go to work the next day, regardless of the night before.

And if you've done something stupid, people will talk about it.
