Energy companies may contribute more than usual to U.S. earnings this quarter now that oil prices have risen above $70 a barrel.
Analysts expect producers, refiners, equipment makers and service companies to account for 4.5 percentage points of the S&P 500 Index’s projected profit growth of 19.6 percent, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
The group hasn’t lifted S&P 500 earnings that much since at least 2014, when the figures begin.
