Europe's volatility and French votes

Elections in France moved European markets.

Traders are preparing for the volatility in April, when the first vote in France. If anyone of candidates receives more than 50 percent of the votes, a second round will be held on 7th May.

Frightened perhaps of the elections in the US and Britain last year, when many investors were wrong expectations, traders were betting the price of the euro against the dollar, the most traded currency pair.

The gap between the quarterly volatility of the exchange rate - the period between the two election rounds and the one-month volatility spike made larger than the percentage for the week, the widest since October.
