Members of the U.K.’s FTSE 100 Index are estimated to have grown their earnings by about 36 percent this year. UBS Group AG warns that much of that boost comes from a recovery in commodity prices from 2016 lows and that this “base effect” is set to fade going into 2018. About a quarter of FTSE 100 members belong to the energy and materials sectors, which have increased their profits the most among the benchmark’s industry groups this year.
