German consumer sentiment is set to increase again in June, GfK market research group said in its monthly survey on Wednesday, but it warned that geopolitical risks could weigh on future consumer spending.
The forward-looking GfK consumer sentiment index is set to rise to 10.2 points in June from 10.1 points in May, bucking economists' expectations of 10.0 points in a survey by The Wall Street Journal. The June figure is the highest value since October 2001, GfK said.
"Private spending is a key driver for economic growth this year. However, existing risks still must not be forgotten," GfK said. Tough negotiations on the future of Greece in the euro area, the Ukraine crisis and IS terrorism could noticeably dampen consumption in Germany, it added.
