Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras wants three-year rescue loan amounting to at least € 53.5 billion ($ 59.2 billion), in a last attempt to keep the country in the eurozone.
Instead, it proposed a package of reforms and spending cuts, including pension savings and tax increases similar to those presented by creditors last month. The proposal was submitted to the European institutions later on Thursday and will be presented to the Greek parliament on Friday. The proposal will be discussed at a summit of European Union leaders on Sunday to determine whether Greece receives a new bailout, or be forced to leave the single currency.
Greece propose measures that are almost mirror the proposals of creditors on June 26, which were rejected by voters in the referendum on 05 July It is unclear whether the proposal is enough to win a deal with creditors amid signs of worsening economic situation of Greece, as banks are closed and there are capital controls imposed before 12 days.
