Last year Italy posted the best economic growth since 2010, but the pace still lagged behind that of Germany, France and Spain, and it’s projected to do the same this year. Its debt to gross domestic product ratio consistently tops 130 percent, while unemployment hovers around 11 percent. Now, Sunday’s bitterly contested but inconclusive election leaves the euro area’s third-largest economy without a new government and facing lengthy political negotiations.
