The US and China may reach agreement within weeks, but this is unlikely to improve the relationship between the two economies in the long run.
The two sides are holding continuous talks to smooth their trade relations and differences, particularly on important issues such as the aggressive transfer of technology from the US to China, Beijing's subsidies to local companies and the trade imbalances between the US and China.
"I think we will have a deal - I think both sides understand that this will be in their best interest, I expect something to happen in the next four to six weeks." - says Kurt Campbell, president of The Asia Group.
Campbell added that the deal would also address a number of important issues between Washington and Beijing. But there are other conflicts that can not be solved in the short term, even though Campbell does not specify who they are.
"I expect the tension between the two countries to continue." - adds Campbell.
According to some experts, the US-China conflict extends beyond the trade war.
The billionaire investor, Ray Dalio, the founder of Bridgewater Associates, said last year that differences in the political approach of both sides have made the difficult issue even more complicated.
