Hurricane Jose continued its path toward the U.S. Northeast on Sunday, while Tropical Storm Maria strengthened to a hurricane. Maria -- with maximum sustained winds near 75 miles (120 kilometers) per hour -- is expected to move across the Leeward Islands Monday night, taking it through territory already battered by Irma. Jose -- with winds near 90 miles per hour -- should remain a hurricane through Tuesday but isn’t expected to hit the U.S. east coast, according to a National Hurricane Center advisory at 5 p.m. New York time.
