Largest arms company in the US reached an agreement to purchase the manufacturer Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation from United Technologies Corp (UTX:US). In the press release of Lockheed Martin says: "Sikorsky is a natural fit for Lockheed Martin and complements our broad portfolio of world-class aerospace and defense products and technologies,” said Marillyn Hewson, Lockheed Martin chairman, president and CEO. „Together, we’ll offer a strong portfolio of helicopter solutions to our global customers and accelerate the pace of innovation and new technology development.”
The amount of the deal is estimated at $ 9.0 billion, but given the tax relief actually talking about a sum of $ 7.1 billion. The acquisition should be finalized at the end of 2015 or in Q1 of 2016.
This will be the biggest acquisition by Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT), after ingestion of Martin Marietta for $ 10 billion 20 years ago.
