Microsoft (MSFT) announced the purchase Boston-based cybersecurity firm Hexadite for $100 million Wednesday as part of the company's pre-announced plan to invest more than $1 billion annually in cybersecurity research and development over the next few years.
Hexadite offers technology that automates a company's response to cyberattacks, potentially reducing costs for the businesses while increasing productivity..
Hexadite's investors include Hewlett Packard Ventures, and venture capital firms TenEleven and YL Ventures.
Microsoft shares were down 0.2% to $68.54 in premarket trading Wednesday after closing the previous session up 0.34%.
