Life insurers are likely to report strong 2Q results, especially those that are more equity sensitive, Morgan Stanley analyst Nigel Dally wrote in a note.
Equity market strength should improve results from offerings such as asset management, variable annuities and pension, and robust returns from alternative investments should continue; weaker U.S. dollar may also give boost to insurers with foreign operations
That said, spread compression is likely to persist, and "the positive influence of capital management will be under pressure"; some insurers may have also slowed share repurchases
Morgan Stanley sees alternative-investment strength benefiting companies with bigger alternative investment portfolios like ATH, MET and LNC.
