ECB reported a deterioration in liquidity of Monte dei Paschi yesterday. The central bank assumes greater shortage in the balance sheets of the Italian lender to recently announced $ 9.19 billion. One month liquidity Monte dei Paschi for the period November 30 to December 21 fell from 12.1 billion euros to 7.7 billion euros. New problems for the bank are caused by the outflow of funds caused by the increase in withdrawals of deposits.
The news is negative for the whole banking sector in Italy, as the formed new fund to support banks will be able to help less lenders after the needs of the Monte dei Paschi has increased.
Regulator Consob has stopped trading on the Monte dei Paschi stocks at Friday until reassess shortages after the announcement of the ECB.
