Britain's Parliament has taken control of the Brexit trial by Prime Minister Theresa May and will now try to decide how Britain will leave the European Union.
In voting Monday, the House of Lords split from 329 to 302 to schedule a vote for a series of alternative strategies potentially involving a second referendum, to keep the UK in the bloc's customs union, to leave the UK without a deal or even cancel Brexit. The first result of this change was the resignation of three ministers.
Now Parliament has to decide what to do next:
The first stage is "indicative voices" scheduled for Wednesday. Although there is no agreement on the exact format, it probably means that legislators who vote on a number of Brexit variants are on a piece of paper.
The idea is that by allowing MPs to vote for as many options as they like, part of the game with which Brexit has so far been characterized will be avoided.
Possible options are related to a closer relationship with the EU than May's plans.
