Russia’s ruble is shaking off a trend of August weakness that has plagued the currency for the past decade. This year the stakes were even higher because the U.S. toughened sanctions against Russia, Brent crude retreated and options traders had boosted bets on a drop for the month. Analysts at UBS Group AGand Morgan Stanley recommended buying the currency of the world’s biggest energy exporter in recent research notes.
