The S&P 500 Index is on the verge of its biggest one-day decline since May 17, extending a drop that began with President Donald Trump’s heated rhetoric in response to North Korea’s nuclear threat. Also at risk is the gauge’s streak of 15 straight days without swinging 0.3 percent in either direction, a feat with no precedent in U.S. stocks. Meanwhile, the CBOE Volatility Index continued its volatile week, jumping as much as 39 percent on Thursday.
