Another month of U.S. consumer inflationbelow consensus forecasts is enough to prevent further Fed rate increases in 2017 and push back the start of the tapering of the pace of balance-sheet reinvestment, said Guy Lebas, chief fixed-income strategist at Janney Montgomery Scott in Philadelphia.
* “This pretty much puts the nail in the coffin for” 2017 hikes
* Though “you can pin some of it to one-off causes, that argument is getting thinner the more this persists”
* “This at the least pushed off until December” the balance- sheet policy change
** “Slowing reinvestments is a form of tightening and if inflation is heading southward then tightening seems” not warranted
* Lebas predicts 10-year Treasury yield ends the year between 2.1% and 2.4%
