British Prime Minister Theresa May promised Thursday that EU citizens will not be immediately kicked out of Britain when it leaves the union and says their fate will be a top priority in Brexit negotiations prompting guarded praise from other EU leaders at a tense time for the continent.
In general, the negotiations started well and the tone on both sides was normalized after the initial attacks and challenges.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Austrian Chancellor Christian Kerr and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Ruth welcomed May's proposal, but said there were still many questions with a vague answer.
Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel is of the opinion that the will of the British people must be respected, and for him the number one priority is the security of Belgian and European companies. "What we need is security for our companies and if we support the idea that Breckitt will not happen then it will only bring more uncertainty," Michelle added.
It's going to happen and this is inevitable, but the better tone between EU leaders and UK leaders is giving security to investors. The moods for soft Breckit support the pound and are expected to support stock markets today.
