The largest ETF tracking U.S. small-cap shares has gained 2.3% since a four-month low in August, but traders are taking their precautions. The cost of options hedging against a 10 percent drop in the iShares Russell 2000 ETF hit a 10-month high relative to bullish contracts. Small-cap stocks, the market darlings after the U.S. presidential election, have climbed less than the S&P 500 Index this year amid a weaker dollar and higher interest rates that make it more pricey to borrow money.
