On Wednesday, Carrie Lam, head of the Hong Kong Legislative Council, said she had withdrawn the controversial extradition bill, which sparked months of mass protest.
The full withdrawal of the bill is one of the five demands that protesters are fighting for. The proposed bill would allow Hong Kong people to be extradited to mainland China for testing. Despite the suspension of Lam's bill in June, protesters continued to gather. On Sunday, the city saw its most violent day since the start of mass protests earlier this year.
Lam made a public announcement Wednesday, saying that the government responded to each of the requests but acknowledged that "it may not be able to handle all the complaints of people in the community." She then called for dialogue, not for further violence.
