Rival Samsung, will be the initial supplier of OLED screens for Apple’s 10th anniversary iPhones.

Apple has decided to adopt a flexible display for one model of the new iPhone coming out this year and has ordered sufficient components to enable mass production.

The use of OLED displays will allow Apple to introduce a phone with a new look and enhance sales.

The last change introduced which made the iPhone 6 thinner and having a larger display, helped boost sales and bring profits to the company. However, the next model of the iPhone 7 show a similar design, which contributed to fewer sales in China.

Analysts say Chinese consumers are more likely to buy a new phone when it has a different look that gives attractiveness and status symbol.

Expectations for the iPhone with OLED technology helped Apple's stock climb to a record in February.

Another improvement expected is USB-C port for power supply and other external devices, instead of the original company's lightning connector. Furthermore, the physical "Home" button will be removed.

Apple and Samsung are struggling to develop features that will motivate consumers to replace their phones frequently and recognized as a higher-end brands compared to other available handsets produced in China.

Hiroki Totoki, which is responsible for the business smartphone of Sony Corp., said in an interview that became increasingly difficult for companies to distinguish their new products not only from competitors but from their own recent models.
