The talks between Canada and the United States on updating the North American Free Trade Agreement have been stifled after President Donald Trump said the pact would be drafted with US terms. Ottawa, however, firmly opposes the signing of "any deal" prepared by the United States.
US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland resume sophisticated talks Friday as Mexico prepares to return to discussions aimed at ending one year of tough negotiations on the tripartite Free Trade Agreement in North America - NAFTA .
Earlier this week in an interview, Trump said that any trade deal with Canada would be "fully in line with our terms."
The Reaction - Decline in indices and weakness for the Canadian. Canada and US hardcods led to increased USD/CAD volatility, while global stock indices fell, weighing concerns over US-Europe-China trade relations.
