The US government has announced a review of how the US air regulator has approved the operation of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft after two Boeing aircraft of this type have been crashed within five months.
Elaine Chao of the Department of Transportation has instructed Calvin Scovel, an independent inspector, to conduct an audit of the aircraft certification process.
In a letter to Scovel, Chao said: "Safety is a priority for this department, and each one of us sympathizes with the two Boeing 737 MAX 8 incidents in Indonesia and Ethiopia."
"As you know, Boeing requested a change of type of certificate for this type of aircraft in January 2012, and the Federal Aviation Administration issued a new certificate in March 2017".
"In order to clarify the department's decision, to inform the public and to adequately assist the FAA to carry out safety procedures effectively, investigators will start with an audit that will form an objective and detailed analysis of the story for reasons , actions and consequences that led to the certification of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 ".
