On his visit to Japan, US President Donald Trump said the US is not yet ready to enter into a deal with China.
"I think they are most likely at the moment sorry for not taking the initial deal instead of trying to renegotiate," Trump said at his Tokyo conference. "They would like to make a deal, but we are not ready for it," Trump added.
The US president has also failed to point out that Chinese commodity tariffs can rise significantly and rapidly.
For a period of time, US rhetoric was quite mixed. At one point in the administration, they said that a deal was going to happen very soon, and the next moment that the talks were moving away from the consensus they had been waiting for. At the same time, the Chinese position has always been the same. They have always believed that disagreement between the two sides can be resolved amid friendly consultation and negotiation.
Despite the attempt to maintain friendly tone from the Chinese side, the trade war escalated. No matter how friendly the Chinese were, they could not not take countermeasures of the new tariffs imposed by the United States.
