The yuan traded near a 12-week low amid investors' expectations for the IMF decision on whether to grant it the status of a reserve.
IMF staff recommended earlier this month, the yuan be added to the basket of Special Drawing Rights, along with the dollar, euro, yen and British pound.
The Washington-based IMF will vote for the inclusion of CNY on 30 November.
"Any massive gains or depreciation of the yuan is unlikely, as there is less than one week, the decision of the IMF," said Stella Lee, president of Success Wealth Management Ltd in Hong Kong.
