Prime Minister of Great Britain Theresa May went to Berlin and Paris on Tuesday for talks with German and French leaders in an effort to provide support for a second delay for Brexit.
The talks come before EU leaders meet in Brussels on Wednesday for an emergency summit dedicated to Brexit. At the EU Council meeting, the other 27 EU leaders will have to decide whether to give the UK more time before leaving the block that was due to happen on Friday.
Originally, the country had to leave the EU on March 29, but they were given more time because the UK lawmakers rejected the May withdrawal agreement on three separate occasions. Now she has requested another extension of Brexit with deadline by June 30.
Meanwhile, the deal with Brexit has not yet been approved by British politicians, although they also rejected the possibility of leaving the EU without a deal. Several alternative suggestions by Brexit failed to find a clear majority of support.
While German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she was ready to give Britain more time her French colleague Emmanuel Macron insisted that May must present a "credible plan" to justify the extension. It is also reported that he wants to impose strict conditions for the grant.
Therefore, Britain's fate is now largely in the hands of its European neighbors, and the United Kingdom will have to justify the request for more time.
