Overview of the Asian markets: Asian equities were mixed on Wednesday after an uninspiring U.S. session that saw the dollar grind higher, with attention turning away from geopolitics and back to economic data. Japan’s Topix index was little changed. South Korea’s Kospi index rose 0.6 percent, reopening after a holiday. The Hang Seng Index rose 0.6 percent in Hong Kong, while the Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.3 percent. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Index retreated 0.2 percent.
Overview of FX market: USD: The Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index rose less than 0.1 percent after jumping 0.4 percent on Tuesday as the yen, pound and kiwi weakened. JPY: The yen was little changed on Wednesday at 110.69 per dollar. AUD: The Aussie dollar nudged higher after the wages data, up 0.2 percent to 78.33 U.S. cents.
Commodities markets: Gold added 0.1 percent to $1,272.57 an ounce in early Wednesday trading after declining 0.8 percent the previous session. West Texas Intermediate added 0.4 percent to $47.73 a barrel. It has declined almost 5 percent this month.
Overview of the European markets: Today economic data in Europe will be on focus, as the moods before the opening of the European markets look positive. We expect GDP data from the Eurozone, as well as average earnings and unemployment rates in the UK. The German DAX index and the French CAC will open up by 3 points up respectively to 12202.8 and 5148.1. The British FTSE 100 index will open higher by 8 points at 7397.3.
Overview of the US Market: U.S. stocks indices closed mixed on Tuesday. The S&P 500 Index and Nasdaq Composite Index drifted lower, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose slightly for a third straight day. The CBOE Volatility Index, also known as the VIX, continued to tumble amid a return to calm in the stock market. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite closed down 0.1 percent. The Dow gained five points, or less than 0.1 percent. The MSCI All-Country World Index declined 0.1 percent.
