It’s easy to be skeptical about new products in metals trading: they’re rarely successful. CME Group Inc.’s foray into a London-New York spread contract hasn’t seen any volume, Singapore futures are all but dead, and when the London Metal Exchange launched a gold contract in the 1980s, it didn’t last. Yet LME precious, which launched this week, is showing signs of life, with about $1.1 billion in gold changing hands on Thursday.
