Trump wants to ask the Congress for initial $4 billion to start building the border wall

During the Congress on Thursday, President Donald Trump intends to seek an initial budget of $4 billion to start the construction of a wall along the border between the US and Mexico.

The total cost of building the wall is expected to be much more than the initial requests as estimates rose from $12 to over $21 billion dollars.

Building a wall — and having Mexico pay for it — was a regularly repeated campaign pledge of Trump’s. Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto has said his country won’t pay for the wall. Trump has responded by telling Americans Mexico will reimburse the U.S.

Money for the wall in fiscal 2018 are part of a broader budget request that envisions beefed-up border security and defense spending, to be paid for by reduced outlays for the State Department and elsewhere.

Mulvaney said that the administration has not established a number of details on the proposed border wall, including where to begin construction. He said the funding will allow the administration to run the program.
