Caution reigned in a week loaded with events that could change the tone on financial markets, from the ECB’s policy meeting to Britain’s increasingly uncertain election. U.S. stocks retreated, while havens including gold, the yen and Treasuries gained.
The S&P 500 Index fell a second day after ending last week at a record, while Europe’s equity benchmark slid the most in a week. Gold headed for a seven-month high and the yen rose to the strongest since April, while 10-year Treasury yields fell to the lowest since November. The dollar traded at an eight-month low.
