The escalated tension on the Korean peninsula has knocked financial markets out of the August doldrums.
U.S. stocks fell the most in a month and the CBOE Volatility Index reached its highest since May as American allies warned North Korea against firing missiles toward Guam. Haven assets advanced, with gold, the yen and Treasuries all higher. The dollar took a cue from data that signaled inflation will remain tame.
