U.S. stocks were steady with investors’ focus turning to Apple Inc. as the tech giant, up 27% this year,
is set to report quarterly results after the bell.
Materials, industrial and energy shares, up at least 0.3%, leading in early trading. Financials (-0.5%) and consumer staples (-0.3%) shares lagging.
Energy shares up 0.3% after BP Plc’s first-quarter earnings beat estimates, helped by higher oil prices and cost cuts, sending its shares up 2.5%.

VIX nudges up to 10.2, as falls further, equity prices get boosted and financial conditions loosen, which will likely keep the Fed on track for hikes despite the hard data from the economy showing a soft trend.
