Donald Trump has again appealed to North Korea, saying that attempts to negotiate with the regime in the country are "wasting time" and the US is preparing to do what it needs because tensions are escalating. Over the weekend, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said the United States has opened a direct communication channel with Pyongyang. Tillarson said there are at least a few channels on which both sides can negotiate. Still, Trump undermines Secretary of State diplomacy, saying the talks are not working. In a series of tweets, Trump tells Tillerson "save his energy," which suggests that the US is ready for more serious action against the regime.
Later in the day, State Department spokesman Heather Nauer underlined that the United States had decided that Pyongyang would not have a nuclear weapon. "The choice of diplomacy or power depends only on the regime in North Korea."
There is no market reaction to Trump's tricks, but we remain on the lookout for developments on the Korean Peninsula, as with any tightening of tension between the two countries, we will look for convenient positioning positions with long Gold and JPY.
