Semiconductor stocks, which have been among the biggest drivers of the technology rally that started
unraveling Friday, are standing out in another way.
The cost of three-month options on the VanEck Vectors Semiconductor ETF has surged to the highest since 2006 relative to the SPDR S&P500 ETF Trust, the biggest ETF tracking the U.S. equity benchmark. Traders are paying up for protection against price swings as stocks from Skyworks Solutions Inc. to Lam Research Corp. widen two-day losses to more than 7 percent and Goldman Sachs’ cautious note on Advanced Micro Devices Inc. adds to investor concern.
