Warren Buffett often gives lectures to students, and when he does, he plays a game on them. The task of the game is to pick a classmate with an idea of having 10% of their earnings for the rest of the life. And of course, to explain which classmate and why.
Buffet asks: "Are you going to pick up one with the highest IQ or the best grades? What are the qualities you look for in a person?"
He suggests that students list the negative qualities on an opposite side of the paper, the negative qualities which can stop one to succeed. Also, he asks them to answer to "Which qualities is one unable to have and which ones is unable to stop?"
According to Buffet, the answer is "None". He believes that a certain quality is the personal choice of each one of us. People choose whether to be generous or no, whether to be envious or whether to keep score in life. The game becomes very simple in the end - keep doing the positive things and try to stop doing negative ones.
For Buffett, three things to look for in a person are: Intelligence, Energy and Integrity. Moreover, he believes that Integrity means the most, because it is the thing one is not born with and cannot be taught at school. It is honesty and adherence to moral principles, which one simply chooses to have. Anyone can be intelligent or have much energy, however, honesty and generosity are individual's choices and if the person you picked have these qualities, you are on the right path.
