U.S. President Donald Trump said he cut short his nuclear summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un because the two sides could not agree on sanctions. "We had some options, and at this time we decided not to do any of the options."
Trump described the talks as productive, and highlighted his relationship with his North Korean counterpart.
"Overall they wanted the sanctions lifted as a whole and we couldn't do that and we had to walk away from that particular suggestion. He confirmed that all the current sanctions will remain.
The meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam ended significantly earlier expected. The White House said there had been no new agreements reached during the summit.
Trump is pushing North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons as he gives the prospect of an economic boost to the country and at the same time Kim wants to see sanctions eased without losing the strategic benefits of his weapons of mass destruction.
