Japanese yen rose for a second day against the dollar after a drop in equity markets. Demand for the currency as a safe haven went over speculation that the Bank of Japan will expand its monetary stimulus.
Economic adviser to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said on Tuesday that the meeting this week is the time for the BOJ to act if they want to be preventive. The Japanese currency climbed 0.9 percent, after falling to a three-week low on Monday. The reason for hitting bottom was a report on Bloomberg, the central bank may consider to support banks with loans offering negative rate of some loans.
