Gold was the victim of President Donald Trump’s verbal intervention in the currency market. The metal fell Thursday after Trump downplayed remarks from U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin that “a weak dollar is good for trade.” Trump’s comments that the dollar will “get stronger” and that Mnuchin was “taken out of context” have torpedoed the metal’s surge, says Tai Wong of BMO Capital Markets. It’s “unclear if the impact will last,” Wong said.
