Open interest for arabica coffee has surged to the highest level since at least 1994, when the data from ICE Futures. Bearish investors are snapping up short investments amid bets that Brazil will produce a huge crop in 2018. As the nation’s farmers start to collect the beans over the next several months, the market will be vulnerable to price swings when it becomes clearer what the actual size of the harvest is, according to Carlos Mera, a London-based analyst with Rabobank International.
